Party Gaming PLC has decided to no longer accept customers from Turkey following the signing into law of legislation which prevents unauthorized foreign or domestic companies to offer online gaming.

The company's decision will not affect the revenue of Party Gaming since the number of Turkish online gamblers was insignificant.

Party Gaming PLC is at present restructuring its business and focusing on other markets, namely the Asian and the European ones, which seem open in regard to online gambling.

The British online bookmaker William Hill has announced that its profit for 2006 registered a rise of approximately 60 million pounds in comparison with 2005. The rise in profit was mainly due to the wagers placed on the 2006 Soccer World Cup, but also to the acquisition of Stanley Leisure's retail bookmaking estate.

William Hill executives are confident that the business will be prosperous in 2007 as well, since the company is working in partnership with Codere in order to consolidate its expansion on the Italian and Spanish markets.

Gary Stephen Kaplan, the founder of the BetOnSports gambling website, is expected to be extradited to the United States to face the charges against him. Kaplan was arrested in the Dominican Republic, brought to Puerto Rico , and is at present expected to be transferred to the US.

According to the US prosecutors, Kaplan is charged with racketeering and fraud, among others. Kaplan is accused of breaking a 1961 law which forbids US customers to place wagers over the phone or online.

The European Betting and Gambling Association (EGBA) has been launched this week as a substitute of the former European Betting Association (EBA).Some of the major gambling groups that participated at the launch include PartyGaming, Unibet, Expekt, Bwin and Bet-at-home.

The main objective of the EGBA is to make sure that all European-licensed gambling operators can offer their services throughout Europe, without being requested supplementary licenses. The EGBA will also attempt to set a series of strict rules meant to ensure consumer protection.

The EGBA intends to work toward a regulated and transparent European gambling market, where freedom of trade is guaranteed to all European gambling providers.
